Asian Steak Bowl

This would work over rice or noodles.  We used rice vermicelli for this round.

Fish Sauce

  • 1 T Fish Sauce per person

  • ½ cup water per person

  • 1 T sugar per person

Steak Marinade

  • 2 T cornstarch

  • 1 t baking soda

  • 1 t garlic powder

  • ½ t smoked paprika

  • ¼ t B&G

  • ½ t white pepper

  • 2 t olive oil (garlic for bonus points)

  • 1 T soy sauce

  • 1 t sesame oil

  • 1 T minced garlic

Sauce

  • 1 T brown sugar

  • 1 t ginger

  • 1 t garlic powder

  • 2 T Oyster sauce

  • 2 t soy sauce

  • 1 t fish sauce

  • 1 t chili garlic sauce

Other ingredients

  • Steak or flank steak cut thin

  • Lettuce chopped

  • Red Pepper

  • Green Pepper

  • 1 cup chopped mango

  • ½ onion large chop

Start heating the water for cooking pasta, or start your rice.

Place Fish Sauce ingredients in a small sauce pan, place on low heat

Mix together Steak marinade ingredients, mix in steak, set it aside

Mix sauce ingredients, place to the side

Heat ¼ cup olive oil on high heat in your wok.  Add steak, get a good browning on all sides.  Place in a bowl to the side

Add more oil to the wok.  Add peppers, onions, and mango.  Stir fry for ~ 3 minutes.  Add the steak back in.  Add the sauce.  Stir it in to cover all items.  Cover the wok, and remove it from heat.

Cook your pasta to desired level of al dente.  If you are using rice, hopefully it is done at this point.

Build the bowls.  Start with pasta/rice.  Add lettuce.  Add stir fry. ½ our group likes to pour a mixture of fish sauce and chili sauce on top of the bowls.  This is optional.  Some also add crushed mixed nuts as an option.
